I get a lot of reader questions about dance options and programs for kids. We really like Creative Dance Arts because of their non-competitive approach to teaching dance and the wide variety of classes the offer for all ages, from toddlers to adults. Their friendly and welcoming atmosphere is ideal for the beginning student as well as the accomplished dancer.
Creative Dance Arts was founded in 1975 by Donna Smead-Turner and passed on to Patti Friedman in 1999. The focus of the school is on teaching proper dance technique in Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Tap and Modern. Young students are taught at their developmental level separating the 3 year-olds, 4 year-olds and 5 year-olds in their own classes. They also offer classes for children as young as 2 1/2 which is a discover program in movement with guided instruction.
One of the cornerstones of Creative Dance Arts is community service. Rather than participating in dance competitions, students are offered the opportunity to be a member of Performance Troupe. The Troupe rehearses dances and travels to provide entertainment and socializing for nursing homes, assisted living facilities, senior living, community festivals, fundraisers and more! It is a wonderful performance opportunity as well as a personal growth experience for our young people.
