If you’re just tuning in, check out Part 1 of my trip to NYC which talks more about my meeting with Jamie Grayson, aka The Baby Guy.
New Website Alert
A new project that Jamie is a contributor to is the new website, MyBlueBirdie.com. I’m really excited to share this with you! Jamie described MBB to me as a combination of BabyCenter and Zuilily combines with editorial content and retail. You sign up for their emails, and you will get customized emails, tailored to the age of your child. It will be chock full of tips and product buying guides based on the age/stage your child is. There will also be flash sales! MBB is for the 0-3yr old crowd, and you can currently signup to be notified of when the site goes live.
Farm to Baby
My next NYC meeting was with the fabulous company Farm to Baby. Farm to Baby brings farm fresh produce directly to the babies of northern Brooklyn (thought they are expanding into central Brooklyn and Manhattan by the middle of April). Marshall Louis Reaves and Lauren Utvich are the brains behind this great business. Marshall is a doctoral candidate in molecular biology at Princeton University, and Lauren trained at the French Culinary Institute and the Institute for Integrative Nutrition.
Fresh Food Delivered!
Farm to Baby’s menu is different every week, as it depends on what’s in season and available. I was able to sample some foods I have never eaten before and I thoroughly enjoyed the samples. I can’t even begin to imagine how this will expand the palates of youngsters. I samples Spartan apples, Romanesco cauliflower (make sure to click the link for that, it’s wild looking, and there’s a recipe!!), and beets. Yea, I have had apples, but not beets, or this version of cauliflower.
With Farm to Baby you buy a subscription, just like a CSA, and the food is delivered weekly to you. They’re a green company, using reusable glass jars to deliver the food (which comes in an adorable Farm to Baby lunchbox), and be on the look out for bicycle deliveries coming soon! I love that they do sampling at their local farmer’s markets also! If you visit their blog site you can view their weekly menus, and learn about each of the different fruits/veggies. Find them on Facebook and Twitter.
