The spring 2015 FabFitFun box was a little fab, a little fit, but not fun. There were no cool sunglasses or fun make up colors to try, no amazing hair product or accessory to help get me out of the winter blues and into a sunnier disposition, (I mean come on, a little hair chalk would have been so fun)! But after the disappointment of realizing there was no product that ‘wowed’ me wore off, I realized the products in the spring box may not have been exciting but they were very practical. As the immortal Rolling Stones pointed out in their famous lyrics, “You can’t always get what you want but if you try sometimes you just might find you get what you need”. Considering I had just signed up for a full year of these boxes, I am glad I decided to try the products and give them a chance to show me how much I needed them.
FabFitFun Review Spring 2015 – The Top Contenders
OFRA Cosmetics Eyeshadow Brush Duo (#11 and #20) Retail: $45.90
When it comes to makeup brushes I am a bit of a cheapskate. I feel like I spend enough money on the makeup and I do not want to spend even more on brushes. I was skeptical at first and did not believe a brush would make such a difference but decided to use brush #20, the concealer/corrector brush to apply my liquid concealer under my eyes. I was a little amazed at the results; the brush helped smooth on the concealer keeping it very sheer but still providing enough coverage. It blended into my skin better than when I just used my fingers and looked seamless. I was hooked and now I use it every day to apply concealer under my eyes and anywhere else that might need a little extra coverage.
Palmetto Derma Collagen Booster and Restoration, Retail: $48
As the winter drew to an end I began to look tired all the time and my face seemed, well, haggard. My skin was done with the cold, dry weather and needed a complete reboot to get its glow on again. I visited one of my favorite local skin care boutiques and picked up an emulsion that contained vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid. Within a few weeks I noticed my skin seemed fuller, more even toned, and a lot less haggard. I am now a true believer in Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid, ingredients that are said to fight free radicals and daily elements like the sun, smoke, and smog, and increase collagen growth while giving your skin a healthy glow. Finally skin care ingredients that do what they are supposed to do! I am also a believer that the ingredients in the product matter more than the brand itself so I was very excited to receive this serum from Palmetto Derma which contains very similar ingredients including vitamin C & E, Hyaluronic Acid, Aloe, Gotu Kola & many more super powered ingredients.
Orly Nail BB Crème, Retail: $15
If you are like me you have given up putting polish on your nails except for maybe a special occasion. Although often times I find myself forgetting to do my nails for any occasion. I just do not see the point because five minutes after polishing my nails the color smudges, chips, or somehow gets clumped up. But this BB crème for nails promised to give me natural looking nails while smoothing and brightening them with a subtle peach hue. I tried it and truly love the results. I had a few ridges and splits on some of my nails left over from a mishap with a different nail product. This polish completely concealed all of that and left me with smooth, shiny, healthy looking nails. The best part is it will fade away unnoticed and not be so glaringly obvious that I have not done my nails in weeks the way it is when you use colored polish.
Cosmos Creations Premium Puffed Corn – Salted Caramel Corn, Retail $1.49
This was a sponsored item in the box, not a big ticket item but truly worth mentioning because it was absolutely delicious! This popcorn is made with all natural ingredients, including non-GMO corn and is totally gluten free. Popcorn does not usually excite me but once again it is a product that surprised me once I tried it and I realized it may not have been what I thought I wanted but it sure was what I needed.
The Rest of the Box:
Jules Smith Scarf, Retail $42 – a very pretty, light weight scarf that will look good with tanks and tees through the summer.
Merrithew 3 DVD set “Intense Body Blast” + $25 Gift Card, Retail $61 – A very good 3 disc Pilates workout that goes from beginner to advanced. You can use the gift card to try more DVDs or products like foam rollers and mats.
Princess Flash Tatoos, Retail: $20– Metallic temporary tattoos as much fun for adults as for kids!
ORLY Nail Polish “Cake Pop”, Retail $8.50 – A very subtle pink crème color that looks good on every skin tone. Very similar to that other famous brand known for its ‘ballet slipper’.
Rifle Paper Co. Cities Coasters Set, Retail $16 – A set of coasters featuring images of New York, London, Tokyo, and Paris. They are made out of heavy duty paper though so not sure how practical as an actual coaster but thinking about framing them to make a super cool work of art.
Sprout it App Card + Miracle Gro-able Seed Pod, Retail $1.49 – A very cool concept. An all in one seed pod that can be planted in soil as is and the app helps remind you when to water it and also has other useful gardening tips to help you from planting to harvest.
Vow To Be Chic Gift Card – A sponsored item. Spend $125 renting a dress through this company which rents out bridesmaid dresses and little white dresses ideal for weddings, graduations, formal dinners, and engagement photographs and you will receive another rental valued up to $125.
Hello Fresh Gift Card – A sponsored item. A coupon for $40 off your first week of delivery service from this weekly meal kit delivery.
