There are several options for year-round skating here in Saratoga Springs, Clifton Park, Schenectady and Glens Falls, but ice skating just seems more appropriate to me during the winter. A perfect School Vacation week activity. If you need skates, I’ve provided details below on where you can rent. If you’d like to purchase, try Play it Again Sports in Latham. They have a nice selection of skates in all sizes.

The ice rink offers a wide range of recreational skating, ice hockey and figure skating programs for all ages.
- Empire State Plaza Ice Rink in Albany
Skating opens for the season on Friday, November 23 at 11 a.m. and will be open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Each Friday of the season, including opening day, will feature free skate rentals, courtesy of one of the rink’s presenting sponsors Hannaford Supermarkets. Skating is always free.
Skate Rental: $3 for children under 12 and $4 for adults. Skate rental will be available whenever the rink is open.
Amenities: Full-service snack bar; skate lounge with lockers for personal items; and music.
