Shopping & Style: ABC Kids Expo 2011 Top Picks

I’ll start with a brief introduction.  My name is Ilissa Goman. I’m the owner of Binx. Currently we are a maternity/baby concierge. We offer a range of services including consultations and in-home services to prep your family for baby’s arrival.   Today I’m revealing some of the hottest new products for babies, kids, and mama’s!

I was privileged to travel to the recent ABC Kids Expo in Louisville, Kentucky. The ABC Kids Expo is the largest juvenile products trade show in the industry. This year Snooze Shadethere were 950 vendors to visit with and thousands of buyers looking for products to stock their shelves with for the upcoming year. As a buyer I am lucky enough to be able to share with you some of my favorite new products, some of which won’t be hitting the market till next year!

An absolute fave of mine was the Snooze Shade. It’s a cover that goes over your stroller, infant car seat, play yard, etc. It blocks out 94% of the light and also keeps out the bugs! It’s completely breathable and has a universal fit. It will keep your baby sleeping no matter where you go.

TofeezeToofeze is a great innovative product. It’s a teether made out of food-grade silicone with a stainless steel disk in it. The teether can be placed in a glass of ice water or in the fridge to really take the edge off of teething. You know how babies love cold spoons? Problem solved! The disk can also be engraved; for a truly personal, heirloom quality gift.

An must-have item for all new moms is the Aden & Anais brand of swaddling cloths. They’ll be coming out with some fabulous new prints this year! Yay, finally! The new prints are gorgeous, as are their organic line of products. Love, love, love! An absolute must have for every new parent!

Ubabub is a fabulous company out of Australia. It’s not yet available in the USA, but hopefully will be within the next year. They have a gorgeous line of cribs that have clear acrylic panels on the sides, with small cutouts. They definitely know how to blend baby’s style with that of the parent.

Petit Nest is another furniture company (picture right). One of the founders is Tiffani-Amber Thiessen (and yes I did get to meet her!). They have a great blend of modern and traditional furniture.

Be on the lookout for new products from Boon. You’ve probably already seen some of their main stream products at Target, like the Lawn bottle drying rack. There’s a new line of accessories for the Lawn rack, a new tub, and some great feeding gadgets that will debut early next year.

A favorite company of mine, 4Moms, has an amazing new stroller. It’s called the Origami. It’s the first power folding stroller ever to hit the market. At the touch of a button it folds and unfolds. And no it won’t fold your baby in with it. It has a ton of great safety 4Moms Origamifeatures and sensors. It has a front headlight, also. Best of all, there’s no charging it, or batteries. It has its own generator and it powered by the movement of the wheels!! It has attachments to use & charge your cell phone and iPod. The LCD screen monitor tells you if baby is in their seat, the air temperature, your speed, and the overall number of miles that the stroller has logged from the beginning (a great feature for when hubby claims you get to play all day while he works!).

Also from 4Moms, look for their play yard coming out next year. No “baby prints” in sight, and no struggling to keep the sides locked while you set it up! Just push the middle down to open it, and pull it up to close it. Why anyone would continue making any other play yard is beyond me!

Speaking of strollers, be on the lookout for really great strollers hitting the market next year from Bloom. The Zen Monochrome is a full size stroller that also converts its seat into an infant lounger. The fold on this stroller is so small if fits into the back of a Mini Cooper (which they did have on the show floor for a full demonstration!). I also was able to view the new Bugaboo Donkey in person. Awesome, if I do say so myself.Bugaboo It’s a stroller that goes from one child/infant with a side loading cargo basket, to one child and one infant, to two infants. Perfect for the stylish mom on the go. One of my favorite stroller companies, Quinny, also has some very innovative strollers coming to the market.

And to wrap this up I’ll leave you with this great new product, BuggyLOVE! It’s a cleaning kit for your stroller. Duh, why didn’t we think of this! If you’re going to spend $500+ on a stroller why the heck wouldn’t you take care of it. And to really top it off BuggyLOVE cleaning products are all organic, right down to the tampico bristled wheel cleaning brush.

If you would like to purchase any of these products you can send me and email at and I’ll point you in the right direction. And be on the look out for a giveaway of some of these products, including a Toofeze and BuggyLOVE on the binx Facebook page,!
