My Top Ten Must-Have Items at Healthy Living Market!

3

Healthy Living MarketI’ve adored shopping at Healthy Living Market in Saratoga Springs since the day they opened their doors.  I probably make a weekly trip there, sometimes to pick up a few quick items, and other times to do some major shopping.  I eat a fairly healthy diet; paleo about 80% of the time with a little added grain like quinoa and brown rice and a cheat now and then with some really great cheese (and chocolate!).  The rest of my family…. well, let’s just say their diet is more mainstream 😉

There are a few items that I just keep coming back for, so I wanted to share them with you.  If you haven’t been to the store yet, you absolutely must check it out!  I think you’ll be very inspired seeing some of these items and also the delicious 20 minute meal I made shopping just in the bulk section.

1)  Organic Stir-Fry Mix

PreCut Organic Veggies

Our typical shopping trip starts out in the produce department; a bright and open space with the most gorgeous and colorful produce.  Today we picked up a few odds and ends, but headed over to grab a bag of pre-cut organic veggies.  This is the ultimate in convenience and enables me to put a quick dinner on the table in 20 minutes!  Yes, you pay a little more for the pre-cut, pre-washed bag, but to me, during a busy week it’s worth the money and absolutely nothing goes to waste!

2)  Bulk Galore!

The Bulk Section at Healthy Living Market

The bulk section is what makes Healthy Living Market extra special.  I love being able to purchase exactly the quantity I need of that random ingredient or spice, or grab the kids some munchies.  This particular day, I picked up ingredients to make a cold quinoa salad.  Bulk quinoa (very inexpensive!), dried cranberries (a staple for us because they have no added sugar), curried cashews, and balsamic vinegar (the BEST!)

3)  Cider!

Crispin Cider

I never leave the store without stocking up on my favorite gluten-free ciders.  The best brand in my opinion is Crispin (the yellow label) because it has the cleanest ingredients, is not too sweet, and tastes refreshing.  That said, I love to experiment and try others.  Healthy Living Market often has a gluten free beer or cider on sale, and I’ll take a chance on something new!

4)  Dairy-Free Coffee Creamer

Dairy Free Coffee Creamer

Healthy Living Market has by far the best and most vast selection of dairy-free creamers.  Soy or coconut milk in a variety of flavors, some in the refrigerator section and my personal favorite is the SO Delicious Coconut Milk creamer found in the coffee aisle.

5)  Everyday Shea Moisturizing Body Wash

Everyday Shea Body Wash

I picked this up on my very first trip to Healthy Living Market and it’s the only body wash my family and I have used since!  I love the huge 32oz size and it’s a really great value.  Safe for our whole family to use, Angie included 😉

6)  Maya Kaimal Indian Simmer Sauce

Madras Curry Healthy Living Market

This, along with item #1, add some brown rice or quinoa and you’ve got an easy meal in less than 20 minutes!  I often make my own curry sauce, but I love having this jar in the pantry when I simply don’t have the time.  It tastes most like homemade sauce and I love that every single ingredient is recognizable.  No added yuckies, and the kids like it too!

Coconut Oil

7)  Coconut Oil

Coconut Oil is an absolute staple in my house.  We use it on practically everything; from skin, to hair, to baked goods and sautéing. (I keep two jars, one for personal care and one for cooking BTW!)

Fair Trade Cocoa8)  Baking Cocoa

This is my favorite organic baking cocoa and is made with fairly traded cocoa.  I use this in baked goods, beverages, and in my somewhat famous Paleo Energy Balls (recipe also in the Spring 2014 issue of SaratogaMama Magazine)

9)  Yogurt

Yogurt Galore!

Healthy Living Market has the best selection of yogurt in all the land!  You can count on always finding a few awesome sales on different brands of yogurt so if you’re up for experimenting, this is the place to do it!  They also carry several varieties of dairy-free yogurt.

10)  Prepared Food, Fresh Juice & Coffee

Prepared Food and Coffee

A trip to Healthy Living Market wouldn’t be complete without an intermission at the prepared food area.  Excellent coffee, tea, juices, smoothies, a hot and cold salad bar with tons of healthy choices, baked goods, muffins, desserts, gluten free options, and the list goes on!  We love to take a shopping break in the Atrium area and enjoy a snack.

  1. This store’s prices are so ridiculous, it makes me angry. Everyone I know that has shopped here went once and never again. Most of this stuff you can get in markets now anyway. Cocoa is $2 cheaper in natural food stores in area. Choboni on sale for $1.50? Agave nectar over $4? Go to Aldi or job lots…half the price for Agave. I know they advertise on your site, but this place is awful and always looks empty……

…I’m working on making them WORLD famous, they are the most re-pinned item on my board :- )
I LOVED this list and added it directly to my phone, for my after work shopping trips.
Actually, any other items that you can pay for and try, then let us know about… will be appreciated by all, keep it coming :- )
