I had the pleasure of recently meeting Sylvia Bloom from Eenie Meenie Music. My kids took a short demo music class from Sylvia and I was instantly impressed by the way she interacted with them. As a musician myself, I’m a little picky when it comes to kids music classes. I absolutely love the Music Together program and Sylvia is a
wonderful teacher. Learn more here and enter the GIVEAWAY!
All About: Eenie Meenie Music
- Offering Music Together® classes for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and the adults who love them
Nothing is sweeter than hearing your child’s voice singing a little song, or seeing your baby wiggle in rhythm to music. One of the earliest memories people have is often that of a parent singing them a lullaby before bed. Music is more than pretty sounds—it’s a powerful, primal force that connects us to each other, especially when we make it together!
Sylvia Bloom, the Teacher and Director of Eenie Meenie Music, began her professional career in performance, singing in the chorus of the San Francisco Opera and The Phantom of the Opera, and felt called to find a way to use art for healing. She went on to get a MA in Psychological Counseling specializing in Expressive Arts Therapy, and soon after that became a parent—which of course changed everything!
Sylvia discovered the Music Together® program, which perfectly combined her belief in the power of music and the importance of the family connection. Her training makes her a unique teacher; a music educator who is attuned to expressions of infant and child development. It has also given her the ability to connect musically and personally with the wide range of different individual temperaments in children.
“I was pregnant with my son when I began my training, and taught my first few years of classes with him on my lap, then at my side, and then leaping around the room. I really appreciate and understand the energy of active children! My own temperament as a child was more that of the shy child who at first holds back in the group, and then slowly blossom as their comfort zone grows.”

Music Together® is an internationally recognized early childhood music and movement program for children from birth through age 7—and the grownups who love them. It was first offered to the public in 1987, pioneering the concept of a research-based, developmentally appropriate early childhood music curriculum that strongly emphasizes and facilitates adult involvement.
What are the ideas behind Eenie Meenie’s Music Together classes and philosophy?
- All children are musical.
In our culture, we tend to think that only a gifted few are talented enough to make music- but in cultures where music is a part of everyone’s everyday life, all people grow up “musical”! In reality, music is a gift we are all born with, and a practice we can all learn.
- All children can learn to sing in tune and move in rhythm to music.
We live in an amazing time where we can hear whatever kind of music we want, whenever we want it- at the touch of a button. What a gift! On the flip side, because music is so accessible through our headphones, we’ve in large part lost the music-making part of ourselves, which even a few generations ago was alive in gatherings around the piano, at town dances, or simply singing a lullaby to our babes. Let’s bring it back!
- We as primary care givers are our children’s most important and best-loved models- for music, too!

As parents, we all know children see and copy everything we do. Believe it or not- you are your child’s most important music teacher! But don’t get performance anxiety- all you have to do is play musically with your children and they will feel your joy and learn from it. Teacher Sylvia’s job is to lead the songs and provide opportunities for you to learn the signs of your child’s musical communication and growth, so you can play with and learn from your little one.
- Children’s learning happens best in an environment that is playful, developmentally appropriate, and non-performance oriented.
Does your child need to move around exploring? No problem! Does your toddler stay head buried in your lap, peeking out occasionally? It’s all good! One big girl leaping and twirling and one infant sleeping in a carrier? Great! We all have different temperaments and learning styles, and they’re all accepted in a Music Together class. We meet everyone where they are at, in order to let each child shine.
- Musical learning happens best when the music is both stimulating and accessible so everyone can participate.
The Music Together songs and chants include many different styles, tonalities, and meters of music, so there is a rich and varied experience in each class. Being part of a music-making community is a great gift for both us and our little ones—and so much FUN!
Come join us as we sing, dance, and chant, use scarves, drums, bells, egg shakers, stretchy bands, sticks, streamers, and more in an experiential class that focuses on getting everyone playing and having a good time, while learning all sorts of things about music and child development. Sounds fun, doesn’t it?

Very cool! My son loves okay his dads drums but living on base we can’t allow him to because they are too noisy.
I played the violin as a child and loved it.
I played the recorder and flubbed my way through the school performance. When it came time for piano once the numbered notes, that corresponded to the finger used, went away so did my skill at piano. Epic fail. Let’s pray it’s not hereditary.
I love weekend best bets! It gives me the scoop on how to plan my weekend!
I played the flute for 4 years, highschool hit and I dropped it so fast to play sports and be social! Totally regret it and wish I stayed with it! My kids love music now and I’m encouraging them to try whatever instrument they would like!! Great give away!
Great resource for mom’s and families! Love getting my e-mail of the happenings for the weekend. You rock Saratoga Mama!
