  3. I am lucky enough to have a great experience at 2 area preschool programs. When my twins were younger, we went them to Tiny Tots Learning Center with Miss Deb. My girls are a December birthday so they were too young for a 3 yro program, too old to continue with solely Mommy & Me classes. Miss Deb’s TTLC was perfect. She has a great energy and love for her job. And both children and parents will benefit from her program. Miss Deb will always have a special place in our hearts.

As my children got older, we chose a program closer to home. We now send them to St. Mary’s in Ballston Spa. Mrs. Hogan and Miss Russo are great teachers and run an excellent program. There is a great balance of social development as well as Kindergarten preparation. I think the 5day PM PreK is great step before Kindergarten. We are very happy that we’ve been able to experience both programs.

  4. We are moving to the area from Oregon in January. My son is 4 years old is and is in a Christian preschool right now. Any recommendations?

    Thanks,
    April

    • Hi April! We love Church Mouse in Ballston Spa. It is part of the First Baptist Church of Ballston Spa (www.fbcbspa.org) Also consider St. Mary’s, also in Ballston Spa. I have heard excellent things about their program. Spa Christian School is another good choice. Good luck and let us know how we can help!

  5. Apple-A-Day Nursery School has been relocated to Saratoga Springs.
The new address is 45 Washington St., Saratoga Springs at the First Baptist Church. Please stop by for a visit! http://www.appleadayns.com

  6. Thanks. I love your website and it will be super helpful when we move out there.

    Thanks,
    April

  7. Would you please add Mayfair Cooperative Nursery School to your list? Our Open House is Thursday, February 2, 2012 from 5-7 PM. Come meet our teacher, current families and tour the school. Email registrar@mayfairnursery.com or call 518-381-4675 to RSVP.

  9. Thanks for adding St. Mary’s School in Ballston Spa to your list of preschool options in and around Saratoga County! St. Mary’s offers 3 year old (Tu, Th) nursery school, 4 year old (M,W,F) AM preschool, 4 year old (M-F) PM Preschool, and Full Day PreK for 4′s and 5′s (9a – 3p with before and after care wrap program). We have just opened a second Full Day PreK for the 2012-2013 school year and have 16 available seats. This program is very popular and these seats will go quickly! Contact the school for information (885-7300 or http://www.smsbspa.org)

  10. My son started The Waldorf School (Forest Kindergarden) when he was 3 and he loves it. He is 4 1/2 and he has never not wanted to go to school. The children spend most of their day outside regardless of the weather and harvest and garden and take long walks in the acreage of forest. They make their own applesauce and syrup right from the trees. It such an excellent experience for the little ones.

We may be moving to the Saratoga area and I am looking at preschools for my 4 year old. She will turn 5 in November, but won’t start kindergarten this fall. She currently goes to a 5 morning/week Episcopal preschool. Any suggestions out there?

    Many thanks!
    Catharine

    • St. Clements in Saratoga has a great Jr. Kindergarten for children with birthdays that fall close to the cut off and need one more year before kindergarten. It’s a 5 day program from 8-2, running with the regular school day of the elementary school. There are 2 classes and both teachers are wonderful!

  12. M. Taboubi says:

We were fortunate enough to have our daughter attend two Saratoga pre schools.

First she attended The Beagle School, which I cannot say enough nice things about. They are WONDERFUL when it comes to teaching social skills in a play or schoolwork situation. My daughter learned so much from their gentle, yet guiding approach. A true community feel.

Second, she attended St. Clement’s for her Pre-K year. Wow. What a great introduction to “real school.” They learn all the things a big kid should know, such as how to line up, how to be quiet for seat work, how to respect your neighbor. Truly a loving environment.

    Both schools highly recommended!

  13. I work at Rainbow Nursery School 199 Palmer Avenue, Corinth. Great school with great staff ;)

  14. I also want to add The Nursery School at Prince of Peace. They are the most nuturing, wholesome, and family friendly environment for your Pre-K child to learn in! My two children enjoyed every second of every day that they were there. Mrs.. Roberts and Mrs. Flood have many, many years of experience in teaching!!!! They are located on Route 146 in Clifton Park.

  15. Michelle says:

My family moved to the area about 3 years ago (just as my oldest daughter was about to enter Kindergarten). She had attended a Montessori preschool in Virginia, which we absolutely loved. I thought for sure that we would end up at another Montessori school, but had trouble finding one we liked. We visited just about every school in the area, but nothing quite matched what we had in VA. Then we found Saratoga Independent School, and we were sold. I was thrilled from the moment I walked through the front door, and touring the facility and learning more about the philosophy just reinforced what I already felt – this was exactly the type of school I wanted my daughter(s) to attend. I love the multi-age approach (older kids modeling for younger kids, while at the same time reinforcing what they are learning by helping their younger classmates), the authentic, hands-on learning environment, and what an amazing sense of community exists there. They even offer wrap around child-care in house for working families. Naturally, when my youngest was ready to start preschool last fall, there was no question that we would be sending here there, too.

As early as preschool, the school encourages trial and error, learning through doing. They ask open ended questions and encourage creative thinking. My 4 year old has learned to spell and write her name (sometimes on paper, sometimes in shaving cream on a table, sometimes with stickers or magnets), how to count all the way to 100, the order of the days of the week and months of the year – all within the first six months! And its not drilled into them, but rather done in a playful child-led way that has her sad to leave and looking forward to tomorrow! No surprise that they have been voted Best Preschool three times!

And if you find (like we did!) that you just love SIS, you can enroll your kids into the preschool program and they can stay through 6th grade! Truly, I can’t say enough good things. If you haven’t been by to check it out, you really need to call and set up a tour!!

    • Thanks for your feedback Michelle! It’s so great to hear you found a perfect fit in Saratoga Independent School. I have never heard anyone say anything negative about SIS, so I’m not surprised! Thanks for sharing your opinions.

    Hello,

My name is Courtney and I have twin daughters who are 4. We are moving to Saratoga Springs in a month and need to find a preschool for them! They just turned 4 in January so I am looking for a Pre-K program. They are currently at our church school with is a bible based Christian school. My husband and I toured Spa Christian school yesterday which seemed great but just a little smaller than we are used to. Any recommendations?

Also, looking for summer cmps for them as well, suggestions? I am thinking Tiny Tots, they have some great topics for the kiddos!

This website is awesome, thank you!
    Courtney Armiger

    • Hi Courtney,
Thanks for the note! In addition to Spa Christian, there’s the Church Mouse Nursery School and also St. Mary’s in Ballston Spa and St. Clements in Saratoga, all excellent schools. For summer camps, check out our summer camp guide! Tiny Tots is an awesome program though. Children’s Academy of Malta is also great and has a nice summer camp program. I hope you enjoy living in the Saratoga area! Glad you found SaratogaMama.
