I love Halloween and its activities more than any other holiday. There is just something about dressing up, and okay I admit it, about the chocolate that really appeals to the kid in me.
Now that I have kids, I fill up October with decorating, baking and other fun activities. Halloween celebrations are probably the easiest parties to come up with ideas for, they can be done for low-cost and with little work.
If your child’s birthday is in October you can make Halloween the birthday theme or just have a Halloween party with the neighbors or friends.
To begin with think of what theme fits you/your children the best. Here are two easy Halloween party ideas:
- Little Monsters – Supply children with play dough, lots of googly eyes, pompoms, pipe cleaners and let them go wild creating their own little monsters (Like these found at Activity Village). Create a silly bowling game by painting creamer or plastic milk cartons green and add silly monster faces. For a fun treat the kids can make themselves, get bagels or rice cakes and have children coat them with their choice of monster color (food coloring added to cream cheese). Next, kids can create a scary face using raisins, candy corns, or carrots. Add a little dance time with the monster mash.
- Little Pumpkins – This is an easy one, buy some small pumpkins (I recommend getting baking pumpkins, they are small and cheap). Let children decorate them with paint, or stickers if you don’t want to worry about clean up. When everyone has decorated their pumpkins you can judge them by giving out prizes for the most colorful, most creative, spookiest, etc. I suggest having a category that will give each child the opportunity to excel in one area especially if it is for younger children. Teach the children the five little pumpkin’s song and do the hand movements. For a special snack, Jack-o-Lantern Oranges are hallowed out oranges with jack o lantern faces drawn on them and allow the children to create their own fruit salad inside.
Five Little Pumpkins
Five little pumpkins
Sitting on a gate
The first one said,
“Oh, my, it’s getting late!”
The second one said,
“There are witches in the air!”
The third one said,
“But we don’t care!”
The fourth one said,
“Let’s run and run and run!”
The fifth one said,
“I’m ready for some fun!”
OOOOOOOH, went the wind
And OUT went the light (clap on “out”)
And the five little pumpkins
Rolled out of sight.
I think the recipe to a simple party is having a craft, game, and special treat to make the party complete. Get creative without spending a lot of money and you will make memories that will last a lifetime.
And remember if you are having a party and want someone else to do the work keeping the children busy contact Erin Carter [email protected] for a low cost option. I keep the children moving and grooving with songs, games, and tons of fun. I create a party tailored to your child’s favorite theme ranging from princess parties, superhero parties, Fresh Beat band, and the under 2 parties that have a bit of everything for the younger crowds.
