Saratoga Flash Mob: Zumba at Wilton Mall

Zumba Saratoga | Wilton Mall | Saratoga Flash Mob

January 21, 2012, Saratoga Springs –  Did you know there was a Flash Mob today at Wilton Mall in Saratoga NY?  About 40 local Zumba  fans met together this morning at 11:15am and got busy to LMFAO’s hit “Sexy and I Know It” and added an encore song, Maroon 5’s “Moves Like Jagger” in Saratoga’s Wilton Mall (video below!).  Who was behind this carefully choreographed plan?  Saratoga mama and Zumba instructor Stacey Doltz.

“I wanted to spread the word about Zumba and how much fun it can be.  Zumba is so much more than just a fitness class to me.  It’s now my way of life- and can be for so many others too,” Doltz said.

Stacey teaches Zumba classes all over Saratoga County and has built up a huge following of adoring fans.  After falling in love with Zumba from taking classes at the YMCA in 2008, Doltz decided to become an instructor and Zumba is now  her full-time job.  Doltz is currently licensed to teach Zumba, Zumba Toning (Zumba with Light weight) and Zumbatomic (Zumba for kids)  Her current class schedule can be found on the Zumba with Stacey Facebook Page.

From hosting fundraising Zumbathon events, performing at Madison Square Garden during a half-time show,  to participating in monthly ‘Zumba in the Club’ events at Vapor Nightclub, now Doltz can add Flash Mob’s to her impressive Zumba resume!  Doltz is planning another flash mob for February at West Mountain Ski Resort in Glens Falls NY.

If you love Zumba, your kids will too!  Stacey Doltz teaches Zumbatomic for kids ages 6 and up at Malta Community Center in Malta NY.

During Zumbatomic , I break songs down for them to learn and at the end of every class, the children have a dance to show to their parents.  We play dance games, laugh and get our bodies moving!  It’s a fantastic way to get the kids out of the house, off the couch and moving!

Doltz will be offering a FREE trial Zumbatomic on February 16th at 4:45 at the Malta Community Center.  Pre registraion is required for this class by calling the Community Center at 899-4411.

**On March 24th from 7-9 Doltz is  hosting a Zumba event at the Malta Community Center called Shake, Shimmy and Salsa the Winter Blues Away  “The idea behind this is that there are so many of us (including myself) who deal with depression …especially this time of year.  So I’m holding an event for the public to offer a night of fun dancing to help not be home and feeling blue,” Doltz said.

“I have NEVER left a Zumba class not feeling happy, motivated and just feeling good!”

  1. It was a nice thought, but that’s not actually Zumba. Zumba is a mix of Latin rhythms like Salsa, Cumbia, Merengue, etc. Maroon 5 and LMFAO are NOT Latin and have nothing to do with the program. That’s a video of top 40 dance aerobics. It’s misrepresentations of the program like this that give it a bad name. Check out the Zumba website and see what it’s really all about (zumba.com). Also, the kid’s program is called ZumbAtomic, not Zumbatomics (http://www.zumba.com/zumbatomic).

    • Hello Anonymous:!!

Thank you so much for bringing up such an important topic!! These words are very similiar to a posting that we talked about on an instructors site lately- interesting- Very similar indeed…………….
But please let me correct your inaccurate statement above. See, when we become instructors, we are taught that 30 percent of the music in our classes CAN be non zumba songs. They can be ANY song that we would like to do -Zumba ENCOURAGES this in fact! These 2 songs that were performed at my Zumba Flash Mob at Wilton Mall are a representation of THAT portion of my class. I do indeed follow the Zumba formula you and I are both taught and I do indeed have plently of Salsa, Cumbia and Merengue songs in my Zumba classes. The Zumba Flash Mob was not a class. Classes are an hour long in duration. Please feel free to come to one of my classes to understand how a real, full length Zumba Class is run.
I feel strongly that I DID in fact represent Zumba in an extremly positive way and am so proud of my Zumba career! If you would like to list your name, I would love the chance to talk to you further about your concerns and assure you that you are mistaken.

  2. Dear Anonymous,
It was in my error in mis-spelling ZumbAtomic. I will correct that. Thanks for pointing that out. I appreciate you sharing your feelings, but I think you are being a little harsh. As someone that has taken many Zumba classes from Stacey, I can assure you that she is the real deal! Come to class! You’ll see for yourself. What a great job she is doing showing just how much fun Zumba can be!
    Thanks for your comment-
    Colleen

  3. Stacy has been an inspiration! Her passion for zumba is pure motivation!
Anyone who is thinking about trying zumba I highly recomend it with Stacey….. I will follow her where ever she goes.

  4. I agree with Sondra! In fact, it was Stacey’s class that made me realize Zumba is more than top 40! I enjoyed her class BECAUSE she incorporated so many Latin Rhythms. So much so that I became an instructor myself! She continues to encourage me as a fellow instructor, which is what we should be doing!! Take her class-you won’t be disappointed!

  5. Stacey is right on this one “anonymous”. I went through my instructor certification course 6 months ago and remember them explicitly spending time on the “formula” which is 70% latin and 30% other music which includes “top 40″ as well as middle eastern and basically anything that gets people moving. I think that the venue was such that people could identify with those songs making it more fun for onlookers than many of the ZIN songs that we receive. Speaking of ZIN, I am pretty sure one of the last CD’s that we received had “More Than Words” which is NOT latin and the ZIN CD I have sitting right in front of me has a Celtic Bluegrass song on it. For those who don’t know about the ZIN Network, those CD’s come directly from Zumba Inc. While Zumba was born of Latin music, it is really an appreciation of any music that motivates people to move.

In the future, you may want to consider taking these concerns up directly with person you have the issue with. I would do the same, but you posted as “anonymous”. This is not the place for negative comments about something that was an amazingly positive event.
