Hello, I am Karen Charbonneau and my business is Building Wellness. I moved to Saratoga Springs in 2010. With my first visit to Saratoga Springs, I felt the healing energy and the desire of people to live a healthy life. My passion is to provide information to help prevent the onset of disease–one of my main reasons for choosing the Saratoga Springs community. Currently, I am a member and Ambassador for the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce; Wilton Kiwanis member; Wilton Rotary member; and a volunteer at Saratoga Hospital running the healing circle in the Nursing Home.
More about KarenCan you imagine a world without allergies, asthma, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, eczema, and other skin conditions? Can disease be prevented or even cured without prescription medication?
As a youngster, I began to see changes to the world that I didn’t agree with–more harsh chemicals and toxins being added to our daily home environments. Even as a teenager I believed that the body is the best healer of itself, given adequate rest, proper nutrition, and the fewest toxins on a daily basis. When I went to college, I chose to study Sports Medicine and learned about the many functions of the body. Due to an injury, I changed degrees and left my Sports Medicine world, though I never lost sight of the incredible healing functions of the human body.
I lived my life “fairly” healthy—or so I thought. Eating a balanced diet, maintaining a healthy weight, exercising, I didn’t smoke, and even stopped drinking alcohol. It wasn’t until my equilibrium was completely off, I was often dizzy and unable to maintain my balance, that I realized my “healthy” living needed adjusting. The diagnosis was severe anemia, and my doctor even considered an immediate blood transfusion due to my extremely low hemoglobin level. There was one great benefit resulting from this diagnosis. It refueled my passion to get what my body needed: the proper rest, proper nutrition, and the fewest number of toxins on a daily basis.
In my journey to rid myself of the anemia, I cleared the airborne allergies I had suffered for more than 10 years, without prescription medications. While I understand the use of prescription medications, and accept that they have often important benefits, I decided that I want to live my life as long as possible without medications. When you are watching a television ad touting the “positive” effects of some kind of drug these days, do you notice that the list of detrimental side effects can be longer than the benefits!? Who would take some of these drugs unless they absolutely had to?! In many cases, you don’t have to!
So, an important question is, can you prevent a lot of these illnesses or even reverse their effects? My Blog will address toxins that need to be removed from your life, to allow your body to heal itself, and result in a longer and healthier life. As parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, or as individuals, let’s raise the awareness of living a healthier life. Be Well!

Dr. Beth Favro from Turning Point Chiropractic in Saratoga Springs

Dr. Beth Favro originally grew up in Stillwater, then went to the State University of New York at Plattsburgh where she met her husband Dr. Adam Favro. There, they both decided to become chiropractors, so they ventured out to Minneapolis and to attend Northwestern Health Sciences University. Knowing they always wanted to come home to start their practice, they moved back and opened their doors on November 7, 2011. Turning Point Chiropractic is a premier Saratoga Chiropractic facility able to provide the residents and guests of Saratoga Springs the most comprehensive and up to date health care for you, your family and friends.
More about Dr. BethDr. Beth wasn’t always 100% sure she was going to pursue a career in chiropractic. Originally, she wanted to become an ob/gyn or pediatrician, however, during her junior year in college she picked up a personal training minor and her views changed. She started understanding the importance of wellness, nutrition and exercise on a person’s health. After being hesitant about what she should do about her future, a friend recommended she look into chiropractic. At first, it baffled her because she was talking about wellness and not ‘back pain’. Little did she know, there was more to chiropractic than pain management. Chiropractic was a natural, holistic form of healthcare which promoted wellness, included nutritional education and proper exercise to optimize performance. It was a perfect match!
While attending school in Minneapolis, she learned about the additional education she could receive to become more knowledgeable about working with pregnant women and children. Within chiropractic, there were several types of fellowships and diplomates doctors could receive to gain more understanding in a particular field. Dr. Beth learned about the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) and their specific fellowship and diplomate programs offered. She knew it was her calling!
Dr. Beth is excited to offer chiropractic services with a pediatric focus to upstate New York. She had the chance to work closely with many pediatric chiropractors in Minnesota and is ready to serve natural healthcare to the mothers and children of New York!
