The Wonder Room is a brand new play space in Ballston Lake NY, about 15 minutes south of Saratoga Springs. I had the chance to check out The Wonder Room last week prior to this Saturday’s Grand Opening.
Owner and mama Chris Stack along with Creative Director Lauren Cohen are excited to bringing years of childcare and education experience together to start this unique business model to serve and educate Saratoga County families. The Wonder Room is yet another option to add to the list of great indoor recreation spots in Southern Saratoga County.
” I love art, cooking and play and I wanted to share them with children while giving them an opportunity to be creative and use their imagination,” Stack said.
The Wonder Room is a house that has been completely renovated and converted into a play space. With a kitchen that will host cooking classes, a bright and open room for creative arts, an imaginative play room, a theme-based play room, and outdoor space for exploration, The Wonder Room is a good choice for activity-seeking families. If you’ve ever visited the Children’s Museum at Saratoga, The Wonder Room is definitely geared to the same age range; about elementary aged and younger.
In addition to drop-in play, which costs $5 per child (with accompanying adult), The Wonder Room will be offering enrichment programs including crafts and cooking, school vacation programs, classes for adults and is slated to start a preschool program in September. Info on all of those programs are here on their website.
A year membership for a family (1-3 children and adults at the same address) is $120. Compared to the Children’s Museum at Saratoga, that is quite a lot. That price includes unlimited free admission to drop-in play, discounted admission to cooking and special programs, and the ability to borrow items from the toy lending center. That is an aspect I do really like about The Wonder Room. These pictures show you what the toy lending center is all about. You can imagine what fun your kids would have getting to pick their toys like they choose library books! This service however is only available to members, at least at this time.
The creative art room is a beautiful and bright room that is always open during drop-in play and encourages imaginative crafting. With a ‘recycling center’ which includes tons of objects for kids to take and create, as well as all the art supplies you could ever want, this is what really sets The Wonder Room apart from other drop-in play places such as TreePaad in Malta NY, Tumbling Tykes in Latham NY, and Tiny Tots Tearoom in Clifton Park NY.
The Wonder Room is located at 896 Saratoga Rd (route 50) in Ballston Lake, NY.
