Fun Winter Recipes with Jodie Fitz


Here are two yummy recipes to liven up your kitchen this winter and get the kiddos involved for some healthy fun! Find more recipes and fun with Jodie at and find Jodie on Instagram!

Recipe #1: Snowball Munch by Jodie Fitz

  • 1 ½ cups old fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 ½ cups Rice Krispies® cereal
  • ¼ cup chia seeds
  • ¼ cup chopped walnuts
  • ¼ cup mini dark chocolate chips
  • ¼ cup peanut butter
  • ¼ cup honey
  • ¼ cup organic virgin coconut oil
  • Unsweetened coconut flakes

Stir the rolled oats, rice krispies, chia seeds, walnuts and chocolate chips together in a bowl.  

In another bowl, stir together the peanut butter, honey and coconut oil.

Add the peanut butter mix to the dry ingredients and stir them all together,  Form the mixture into ball shapes.  

Roll the snack balls in the coconut flakes.

Place the snowballs on a baking sheet that’s lined with waxed or parchment paper and place in the refrigerator for at least an hour.
These are great for lunch box packing, after school snacking fun.

Note:  You can place the mixture in an 8 x 8 glass dish.  Top it off with the coconut flakes.  Using a spatula pack the mixture down, place it in the refrigerator and cut it into bars for serving as an alternative. 

Recipe #2: The Melted Snowman by Jodie Fitz

(A Vanilla ‘fake’ Shake)

  • 3 Cups of ice
  • 1 ½ cups of milk
  • 6 oz. low fat vanilla yogurt
  • 1 banana
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract

Put the ice, milk, banana, honey and vanilla extract into a blender and blend.  This is a fun serve any time, but perfect for holiday movie nights and/or play dates and parties.

Optional:  Serve The Melted Snowman in a snowman decorated bell jar.  

Supplies needed:

  • Bell jar
  • Ribbon
  • Black construction Paper
  • Tape
  • Scissors
  • Decorative Paper Straws

Start with a plain bell jar.  Bell jars can typically be found in the paper products aisle at your Price Chopper/Market 32 Supermarket.  

Measure, cut and tie the ribbon around the rim of the bell jar.  You can locate colorful ribbons in the seasonal aisle at your Price Chopper/Market 32 Supermarket. 

Add three black buttons onto the front of the jar by cutting small circles out of black construction paper and adhering them with tape.  Black construction paper and tape can be located in the school supply aisle at your Price Chopper/Market 32 Supermarket.  

Serve your Melted Snowman with a colorful paper straw.  You can often locate those in the seasonal aisle of your Price Chopper/Market 32 Supermarket.
