Welcome to winter mama’s! This is a tough time of year for a lot of reasons; physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially! It feels like our bodies get hit with heavy burdens everywhere and then the kids get sick… and then dad gets sick… (#manflu) and then mama goes down too.
I wanted to do a post about some winter wellness practices that will hopefully alleviate *some* of the burdens of the season to leave you feeling more full of joy and abundance and less run down and stressed. Let’s put the “happy” back into the holidays!! Oh, and don’t forget to enter to WIN a bottle of Thieves oil, Thieves spray, and an Immune Roller; my very favorite oil blend for immune system support!
5 Ways to Support a Healthy Immune System all winter long
1. Drink plenty of fluids
Staying hydrated is important for keeping mucous membranes moist, so they can effectively fight off irritants.
Shoot for 64 ounces per day as a minimum for effective hydration.
To warm up when it’s cold outside, drink herbal tea! Herbal teas like lemon and chamomile can help tame anxiety by calming nerves and relaxing your body. Some herbal teas like green and Rooibos are also high in antioxidants. For the most benefit be sure to look for organic teas made from high-quality ingredients.
2. Probiotics are your friends!
Our intestines house beneficial bacteria, or probiotics, that help digest and absorb nutrients and support your immune system. Studies indicate probiotic supplements reduce the incidence of respiratory and gastrointestinal infections, and supplementation in infancy could help prevent immune-mediated diseases in childhood.
For adults: Life 9 is a proprietary, high-potency probiotic that combines 17 billion live cultures from nine beneficial bacteria strains. It helps promote healthy digestion, supports gut health, and helps maintain normal intestinal function for the overall support of a healthy immune system.
For kids: MightyPro is a unique, synergistic blend of prebiotics and probiotics in a supplement specially formulated for children. This supplement features over 8 billion active, live cultures to support digestive and immune health.
3. Stay Active
Moving your body is imperative for a healthy mind, body and spirit. No time for the gym? No worries! There are countless online resources, YouTube videos, or search Pinterest for at-home workouts. This is one of my favorites when I simply don’t have time to get out of the house:
4. Practice Meditation + Relaxation
When you start to feel anxiety and stress building, it’s important to practice managing it in a healthy way, for yourself and for your kids too. Going for a walk outside when the weather permits can be a great way to take mental break. Deep breathing, meditation and mindfulness are great practices for managing stress.
Try using some essential oils and a diffuser and just zoning out in a quiet room. Even five minutes can help reset and recharge.
I’m going to be doing a whole post and upcoming in-person workshop about support your emotions with Essential Oils so stand by for that!
5. Utilize the Power of Essential Oils for Family Wellness
A while back I thought essential oil people were weirdos. Over time though, I learned about toxins in our homes, holistic and ancient medicine, and plant-based wellness and I took the plunge. Essential oils were the easiest and simplest first step and now may family is hooked and more wellness-focused than ever!
We do it all from diffusing essential oils in the house that uplift our moods, purify the air, or relax our minds and bodies to making our own (SAFE/non-toxic) vapor rub for the kids or mixing up some immune supporting blends.
